Caramel Apples

We can't think of Halloween without this nearly effortless, traditional offering. Nothing says spooky season more than these iconic sweets.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Granny Smith apples
  • 6 apple sticks or popsicle sticks
  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 1 and ¼ cups light corn syrup
  • 1 14 oz can of condensed milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 large sheet pan covered in parchment paper or wax paper

For decoration:

  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • White chocolate chips

How to make:

  1. Wash apples and dry them thoroughly. Push an apple or popsicle stick into each apple, then set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add brown sugar and corn syrup, then stir frequently until the mix comes to a boil, roughly 10-15 minutes. Keep stirring to avoid burning. Once boiling, stir in the condensed milk and cook until a candy thermometer reads 250 degrees F. Stir in the vanilla and remove the pot from the heat.
  3. Working as quickly as you can, dip your apples into the caramel, rotate to remove excess, then set on your lined baking sheet. Repeat this with all apples and allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Place semi-sweet chocolate chips in a bowl and white chocolate chips in another bowl. Microwave the semi-sweet for 1 minute, stirring. Continue to microwave in 30-second increments until completely melted. Repeat with white chocolate.
  5. Using a spoon, drizzle the melted chocolate and white chocolate over the apples, and voila! Enjoy these classic sweets!

green chocolate dipped rice krispy treats with eyes

Rice Krispy Creatures

This is an infinitely versatile and adjustable recipe. You can use minimal decoration or as many as you want to create adorable or strangely cute Krispy Creatures for Halloween fun.

Ingredients for decorating:

  • Parchment paper
  • Candy eyeballs, any size
  • Candy Melts in green, orange, purple, or black
  • Pre-made Rice Krispy Treats or favorite recipe
  • Halloween Sprinkles in green, orange, purple or black

How to:

  1. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Add your candy melts (if using different colors, place each color in their bowl), about 1/3 of each color, in a microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Add roughly 1 tablespoon of oil or shortening to the candy melts if desired. Adding a bit of fat creates a smooth, more straightforward application of the candy melts to the treats.
  4. Microwave one bowl at a time, in bursts of 20 seconds, and stir in between each burst to help melt.
  5. Meanwhile, unwrap pre-bought Rice Krispy treats or your pre-made Rice Krispy treats, cutting them into rectangles.
  6. Once the candy melts smoothly, take a Rice Krispy treat and dip it in a color of your choice however you wish, or use a spoon to drizzle it. Working quickly, add the candy eyeballs, sprinkles, or any other decoration, set aside on parchment paper, and repeat for all Rice Krispy treats.
